Christmas in July

On July 2, 2010, I received an offer to buy a “diamond-in-the-rough” Corvette that had been stored in a barn for
over 30 years. The local owner quickly peaked my curiosity. Excitedly, I involved my brother Kenny and son, Blake.
We grabbed a Corvette Black Book and away we went.
Our adventure, just like Christmas mornings from our childhood, filled us with excitement and anticipation as we
wondered what we would find. We journeyed down an old country road, more than 200 ft from the main county road. Screened from the road by trees, and surrounded with tall weeds and brush, an old barn was tucked away off the beaten path in Central Illinois.
The door to the old barn had been nailed shut for nearly four decades. As the barn door was pried open and
pushed back, we found, still sitting on a car trailer, a ‘57 Corvette! My first Corvette Barn Find was better than
finding a Red Ryder BB Gun under the tree when I was a kid! Just like unwrapping a present, we peeked in the
interior, pulled open the hood, checked out the trunk and the frame. We were certainly in the Corvette spirit!
