Long Story Short(er): I'm the kid whose Corvette needed rescuing. I saved up every penny from bussing tables, and at 16 years old, I bought a 1980 Corvette off the side of the road in town. I was always looking for a project, and this one seemed manageable until I ran into an issue I couldn't fix. I took it to a local shop who found a MUCH bigger issue. The frame was cracked in a handful of places and was about to fall apart. The seller wouldn't entertain helping or offering a return, and I was up the creek on a car worth a pile of rusted parts. My mom asked a friend from work if he knew how we could sell it to recoup some money. That friend, Brian, happened to be a member of the Corvette Club of Northern Delaware (CCND). He took the story back to the club and offered to help me fix it. So the Corvette Club of Northern Delaware (CCND), pulled my car up to a members house, where we went every Saturday morning for months, tore the car apart, replaced the frame, and pieced it back together. Barry, another member, had a way with words and pictures, and floated this story out on some Corvette forums. It gained a bit of traction and resulted in MANY parts donated by members and vendors, services offered (list sand blasting a frame), and monetary donations that went towards replacing critical components like rusted brakes. Several Club members came out to help and hang during those Corvette Saturdays and supported getting my car fixed up and back on the road. The car finished and cranked over on my 18th birthday, it even passed safety inspection. That was over 17 years ago. I have fantastic pictures from those days and even a few snips from the local newspaper and made it into a few page article in Corvette Enthusiast Magazine to remember it all. This past year, my Corvette received a full exterior refresh and paint. It'll definitely be in my garage for as long as I'm around, and all thanks to the CCND.
